Natural Water Falls
Our morning ride began with a cold, foggy ride around the mountain top village. The temperature started out at 7.5 degrees celsius and as we rode taillight to taillight we negotiated switchback after switchback. We passed some areas where there was still 5-6 inches of snow on the side of the road. The roads were surprisingly good and other than being a little slick and the odd bit of construction, were well maintained.
Stone paved roads in village
The villages are gorgeous and full of life with beautiful wild flowers, century old churches with slate roofs and stone paved roads, and clean crisp air. As we descended down the mountainside the fog began to clear and revealed to us the crystal blue waters of the Aegean sea. The roads began to dry up and the twists and turns were a delight and a nice warm up for the ride ahead in the coming days. We passed mystical mountain water falls, lush green forests and made our way down to the coast for lunch at a seaside beach restaurant near one of the best beaches in northern Greece, Mylopotamos.
Myopotamus beach
The Don inspected the restaurant, the kitchen, the fish, and it gave it the thumbs up for lunch. We ate octopus, squid, a small local fish called red mullet (barbouni as the Greeks call it), traditional salads with tomatoes, feta and olive oil, and washed it all down with a Greek lager called Mythos. Spectacular!!! This is the life of the soft-handed biker.
It is a pity that you did not enjoy your ride at Mt Pelion with sunshine….The place is fantastic, especially in spring.
Looking forward to read the rest of the trip report!
